St. Joseph Peninsula State Park
St. Joseph Peninsula State Park is a paradise for wildlife lovers staying near Cape San Blas, offering three nature trails that wind through the diverse environments of the coast:
The half-mile Maritime Hammock Trail is a short, scenic hike accessible for all skill levels. Walk the flat boardwalk path and stroll through habitats like marshes, sand scrub, and maritime hammocks.
Explore the shores of St. Joseph Bay on the 1.6-mile Bayview Scenic Trail. This is a great path to see local wildlife and native plants.
If you want something more off the beaten path, head to the Wilderness Preserve at the park's northernmost end and hike the challenging six-mile trail.
St. George Island State Park
If you are staying at our St. George properties, St. George Island State Park is a fantastic place to set out for a quick hike. Stroll along miles of undeveloped beaches and explore two hiking trails:
Explore the one-mile East Slough Overlook Trail for a quick and easy hike.
The park also offers the 2.5-mile Gap Point Trail, which takes you through pine flatwood forests to Apalachicola Bay.
St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge
St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge is only accessible by boat, rewarding visitors with a remote hiking experience. You won’t find any amenities on this island, just wide-open spaces home to many migratory bird species. There are over 90 miles of trails on the island, but most are unmarked, so be careful and ensure you are prepared with plenty of water, snacks, and bug spray.
